Sorry for the lack of reports this spring. I really didn't get out for steelhead much and when I did it wasn't anything special. Mostly allot of old holdover fish and a few fresh jacks.  There were still a few around the other day.  It's warm water and stocked trout season now, but it won't be long and they'll be a new year starting as fresh steel start heading back in.  Anyone wanting to book trips for next fall I have plenty of open dates,  I know I'll be catching chrome, will you?

Well tomorrow is March first and we are still locked up in ice, which is ok by me. I'm having too much fun walking on the hardwater to think about a thaw. However it looks like it will be any day now that the tribs blow open and we'll be back chasing steelhead.

Sorry again for the lack of reports. Nothing had really changed much lately. Now most of the streams are frozen or in the process of freezing. There actually is some open water now but mostly in the faster runs and the fish want to be in the slow deep pools with the water being this cold. After this week I'd imagine even the fast water will be frozen over, it's best to wait until spring thaw at this point unless you really have a bad itch to catch a fish.  The ice fishing is just starting, there are currently few "safe" areas too ice fish, many areas where guys are fishing on "UNSAFE" ice. I fished with a few friends today and had a decent day considering the ice conditions. We all caught fish and we all stayed on top!!

Here we are nearing the end of December and we still have open water and terrific steelhead fishing in Pennsylvania.  Lots of people out today taking advantage of the nice weather and a day off. I fished for a little while and managed to hook into a dozen or so fish, certainly could have done much better with a little more effort, but my brother and I chose to explore some other places and found a few all to ourselves.

The warm weather has kept the streams ice free and the fishing is great as expected. The water is cold making the slower deep water and tail-outs of holes prime locations. There are still a few fish moving so the pocket water is producing but not as well as it had been when the water was warmer.

Sorry for the lack of reports again.  The water as of 11/29 was clear and starting to get on the low side, but not nearly as low as you'd expect for as dry as it's been the last two weeks. The dry spell appears to be ending with some nasty weather on the way. The fishing has been and should continue to be excellent with good numbers of fish just about everywhere you go. The temps. are expected to turn colder and it looks like we'll soon be in winter mode with cold water temps. and fish moving to slow deep pools.

Here's a few pics of 12 year old George Jr. and George Sr. with a few nice steelies!!!

I've been on a trip to Lake O tribs the last few days.  Tough conditions with really high water up there. We did ok but not as well as we would have liked. I did catch a really rare/odd fish. Some call them "fantail steelhead". They have a strange mutation with really long tails and fins, see the pics below.

We fished in PA for a short time this morning and had another terrific morning. The streams are flowing strong with a slight tint of green to the water. Looks like we may have some dry weather for a change, we'll see.

Took dad fishing today, 84 years old and he's still showing the steel who's boss. We caught fish on everything from dry flies to spawn sacks today. Another great day in PA.

What a great day yesterday!! Water with decent clarity but lots of flow for these awesome fish to fight in. Somehow, amazingly, there are still folks who say there aren't many fish. There are tens of thousands of fish spread out from top to bottom of the bigger streams.  With these water flows they aren't usually holding where you can see them. Still a good number of chrome/fresh fish coming in, sorry we were too busy catching fish to take many pictures. We did get one of a deformed fish my brother caught, check out the hump on the back.

Still raining. :-(    The fishing was outstanding Wednesday,Thursday, and Friday.  Fished with a few friends from West Virginia and North Carolina.  On Thursday and Friday,I don't know if there was a 5 minute period when one of us wasn't hooked up on a fish. Many doubles and triples. Then it rained, what a surprise, I should plant some rice.
